The United Methodist Men of the Glen Burnie United Methodist Church is officially chartered by the General Board of Lay Leadership. The purpose is to seek daily Christ’s way of life; to bear witness to this way of life in business dealings and in social contacts; to engage in some definite Christian service. To study and become familiar with the United Methodist Church, its organization, and its doctrines. To promote personal evangelism, especially among men and boys. To develop Christian fellowship in the church, especially among laymen, by promoting Christian understanding. To co-operate with the Bishop, District Superintendent and Pastor on promoting the programs of the church. To co-operate with other units of the United Methodist Men in the promotion of the District Conference and church wide projects under the leadership of the General Board of Lay Leadership.
United Methodist Men of the Glen Burnie United Methodist Church hold meetings at 8:00 A.M. on the second Saturday of each month and Communion Prayer breakfast on the Sunday before Christmas and on Palm Sunday at 7:00 A.M.
To become a member of The United Methodist Men of Glen Burnie United Methodist Church one must attend three meetings within a 12 consecutively monthly period. Each volunteer event, such as helping out with dinners, working around church, doing maintenance work on church property, etc. shall be considered as attending a meeting. To be a member one does not have to be a member of the Glen Burnie United Methodist Church, as our membership is open to all men and boys in the community and surrounding areas. A member must promise to uphold the purpose of the United Methodist Men and subscribe to the principles of the Fellowship.
The United Methodist Men plan, prepare, and serve at least two dinners each year to earn funds to support the mission projects (at home and abroad). A few of our mission projects are:
1. Strength of Service Book; 2. NcEON; 3. Society of Saint Andrews; 4. Salvation Army;
5. Lovely Lane Church; 6. Maryland Special Olympics; 7. Vacation Bible School; 8. United Methodist Youth Fellowship (FIRE) 9. Youth Choir; 10. Red Bird Mission; 11. Homeless Shelter; 12. Volunteers in Mission; 13. Blanket Ministry; 14. Good News Jail and Prison Ministry; 15. Annapolis District United Methodist Women; 16. Board of Child Care Auxiliary.
In the past year we have taken Noah, our Church Bus, and gone to dinner at Friendly Farms Restaurant, Gateway Restaurant, in Frederick, and Harrison’s Restaurant on Tilghman’s Island.
We have also taken trips to Old Salty Restaurant, and The War Memorial in Washington, D.C.
The United Methodist Men also help with the Church Cookout and Service By The Sea at the Maryland Yacht Club, Pasadena, Maryland, by getting there early and setting up and starting the grills and cooking the hotdogs and hamburgers. At the Spring Bazaar the men can be found preparing lunch.
We invite you to join us in fellowship every second Saturday of the month for our Prayer Breakfast in the social hall.
